I Waited in Line for a Week and All I Got Was This iPhone...and This Bag

I actually didn't get an iPhone, but someone else did. And when they did, they also got this promotional messenger bag featuring both AT&T and Apple branding on it. Even affordable messenger bags are typically not a consumer-level gift with purchase promo, but if you think about the $500-600 phone price, plus the price of the service contract, it starts making more sense. More importantly, by giving it to early adopters, you've targeted the audience most likely to evangelize for your product, and generating positive word of mouth is always worthwhile.
