Campaign Update: Word on the Street

According to a recent AFP article, “Barack Obama is trouncing John McCain in the race for the White House — at least in sales of T-shirts, badges, baseball caps and other campaign merchandise.” Interviews with street vendors in Washington DC who sell political merchandise show much stronger sales for Obama: one mentions that Obama gear accounts for about 70% of sales, another says he doesn’t even think his hat supplier makes McCain baseball caps. One wholesaler claims a 4 to 1 advantage for Obama on buttons and a 7.5 to 1 advantage in magnets.
