Promotional Watches: The Newest Fundraising Trend

Silicone bracelets have been hugely effective at raising awareness for various causes. You know those yellow Livestrong bracelets that hit the scene back in 2004? A report from Livestrong shows that 72% of people have worn the organization’s wristbands, and 44% have donated to Livestrong. The organization is approaching $500 million in fundraising as it approaches its 15th year.

So, what’s following in the fundraising footsteps of silicone bracelets? Promotional watches.

They have all the appeal of silicone bracelets, but with more functionality. And they can be customized to fit any cause, as Flex Watches, a charitable timepiece label based in San Diego, creatively shows.

We love the philanthropic angle Flex is taking with its custom silicone watches. Every color in its watch line—11 total—represents the partnership it has with different charities. At the end of the year, Flex donates 10% of profits evenly among these charities.

The company is on a mission to raise awareness about noble causes through colorful, custom watches. People can wear these timepieces to proclaim their support for organizations such as Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) (shown), a nonprofit that empowers war veterans, and Nika Water, an organization that brings clean water to kids in Kenya.

Flex shows that watches don’t just tell time—they tell stories. When you use promotional watches in a fundraising program, you’re connecting with people on a personal level. It’s then that a watch becomes more than a watch—it becomes a tool that sparks emotion and drives action. That’s smart marketing.

Promotional Sunglasses, Beach Balls Heat Up Charitable Pool Party

You don’t have to invite us to a pool party twice—especially one that’s stocked with promotional sunglasses and custom beach balls. Pool + promo products = a guaranteed good time.

Case in point: The poolside bash hosted by Wine Awesomeness, a charitable-minded wine company, at the Solé East Resort in Montauk, New York. Guests received vibrant, electric-blue shades upon arrival, and the pool was packed with solid-white beach balls bearing the company’s logo in brilliant blue.

These promo giveaways—no doubt pool-party must-haves—set the stage for attendees to “drink, party and do good,” which, incidentally, happened to be the event’s theme.

Attendees spent the day sipping drinks, wearing their promotional sunglasses and bopping around custom beach balls while raising money for Malaria No More, a nonprofit dedicated to ridding the world of malaria. Half the proceeds of select cocktails went to the nonprofit.

Well done, Wine Awesomeness. Your promotional giveaways ramped up the fun of this pool-party-for-a-cause.

Promo know-how tip: Hand out themed promotional items at your next event—whether it’s a wine tasting with custom wine acessories included or a grand opening—to extend the visibility of your company name.

The Silver Project: Custom Calendars for a Cause

In February 2009, ePromos employee Stacey Lewis lost her father to Leukemia after bone marrow transplant complications. In the wake of her loss, Stacey made a promise to honor her father’s life and legacy by giving back. To keep her promise she co-founded The Silver Project, a program designed to raise donations for the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation.

Since Stacey works with promotional products for a living, she knew that selling branded items to raise donations would be an effective fundraising strategy. She decided to use a calendar filled with inspirational photography taken by her friend Stephanie Markell, images that captured the essence of the project’s mission: Motivate. Inspire. Remind. Give back.

Two weeks after the idea was hatched, The Silver Project had already sold over 1,000 calendars and raised more than $25,000 for the Gift of Life. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the calendar cleared 350 bone marrow donor kits off the waitlist, and one of the sponsored kits lead to a life-saving match for a patient in need.

This year, Stacey and her partners at The Silver Project hope to eclipse the outstanding results of their innaugural year and save even more lives. Custom calendars are currently on sale for $25 each, and make fantastic and charitable holiday gifts for your friends, family members, or clients. ALL of the net proceeds will benefit the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, and the charitable portion of your purchase is 100% tax deductible.

Please help Stacey and The Silver Project meet their goals for an incredible cause! They are off to a great start, but still have some calendars left to sell.

You can make a purchase and a difference in people’s lives HERE.

3 High-Margin Promos For Fruitful Fundraising

A big part of successful fundraising means extending your profit margins. You may be able to generate a ton of publicity, enlist an army of volunteers, and coordinate your events down to the last detail, but if you aren’t working with products that can deliver significant return on investment, the outcome won’t be very impressive.

The great thing about fundraising promos is that they deliver the high margins you’re looking for. Here are a few examples to show you the kind of returns we’re talking about:

    1. Custom Awareness Wristbands. Ever since the LiveStrong bracelet turned awareness wristbands into a bonafide fashion accessory, companies have been racing to incorporate them into all of their fundraising and awareness promotions. Popularity and visibility are driving factors behind their widespread use, but high profit margins really seal the deal. Some awareness bracelets cost as little as $0.33 each, and are re-sold for as much as $2.00 – quick and easy money, plus more exposure for your cause.
    2. Promotional Bottled Water. Bottled water is a great item to have on hand at fundraising and charity events. Starting at only $0.60 a bottle, we’ve all seen water sold for as much as $2.00 or $3.00 a pop. Plus, you’ll get even more for your money when you take advantage of a full-color custom label to raise awareness or get a message across to recipients. Make sure to provide recycling bins to keep your event eco-friendly.
    3. Tagless Cotton T-Shirt by Hanes®. Now we’re talking real margins! These comfortable cotton shirts come from a respected brand, and may sell for as much as $10 or $15 in retail stores. Your cost, with customization? As little as $3.99 each! Custom apparel might cost a little more up front, but it’s easy to quickly recoup your investment and then some. You have a lot of room for creativity when you use personalized shirts, so again, you’ll get more for your money if you put some thought into your imprint message.

World Water Week: March 20-26, 2011

custom water bottles

Most of us don’t have to worry about the quality of the tap water we get at restaurants. The wait staff fills our glasses, and we don’t give it a second thought – we drink it down without question.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people in the world that don’t have this peace of  mind. In fact, lack of clean water is the second largest killer of children under 5 worldwide.

This week, you’ll have the chance to make a difference for these people when you dine at restaurants participating in UNICEF’s Tap Project.

Restaurants participating in this project will offer customers the chance to donate $1 for the tap water they normally receive for free. All of the proceeds from this World Water Week promotion will go directly towards providing clean drinking water and sanitation where it is needed most.

Your business can participate in the Tap Project and help raise money for World Water Week with promotional drinkware like the AquaSkin foldable water bottle. These promotional waterbottles can be customized and sold to raise money, or they can be imprinted with information about these projects to help raise awareness.
