We interrupt our Olympics retrospective with breaking news from the US presidential race. In response to John McCain’s recent focus on drilling for oil and his recent oil rig photo op (and perhaps his promotional tire gauges), the Democratic National Committee created an Exxon-McCain press kit including an oil barrel stress ball, some pins and a bumper sticker. The kit was accompanied by a press release saying:
Your friends at the Democratic National Committee are delighted to provide you with a complimentary Exxon-McCain ’08 campaign kit.
Since we know how stressful it has been to watch your access to the candidate diminish under Steve Schmidt’s new rules, we hope you’ll accept this oil barrel-shaped stress ball along with some additional Exxon-McCain ’08 paraphernalia. It is the least we can do.
To maximize the impact of the campign, they even created a web site promoting the ticket.
