FDA Bans Promotional Product Use by Tobacco Companies

New FDA regulations are about to put an end to the distribution of branded merchandise by tobacco companies and retailers. The ban already exists in every state except four (Florida, Minnesota, Mississippi and Texas) as the result of a 1998 legal settlement. However, starting June 22nd, the ban will be extended nationwide.

Howard K. Koh, U.S. assistant secretary of health, had this to say: “The regulations being announced today are designed to prevent our children from becoming the next generation of Americans to die early from tobacco-related illnesses.”

The new ban provides a nice opportunity for awareness campaigns designed to help people quit smoking. Items like promotional stress balls and custom gum can help ex-smokers beat withdrawal, while this Cost of Smoking Calculator Card serves as a source of motivation to stick with it!
