|Rising concerns over product safety were one of the top stories of 2007, and unfortunately, they’re not going away in 2008. With the election and the Olympics in 2008, China will be big news as a trading partner, a rival on the world stage, and a source of potentially unsafe products. The promotional products industry won’t be in the spotlight as much as consumer goods companies, but it will be a concern to buyers.|
The winners will be companies that have close, long-term relationships throughout the supply chain, from the US distributor to their supplier to the Chinese manufacturing facilities where the products are actually made. Even if products are safe, without these relationships safety is harder to prove. Of course, US-based manufacturers will also see a significant boost in 2008 as safety concerns and politics boost demand for made in the USA products.
