BlogGraphic - large

Recently, our staff from ePromos attended the Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) Expo in Las Vegas. We had our eyes peeled for emerging trends and innovations in custom logo merchandise. This includes identifying the best-of-the-best products, and new decoration methods to help our customers’ brand look amazing and be effective with their marketing spend. ePromos helped you find the best promotional items in 2016 – now check out our top ten trends in promotional products for 2017 below!

1. Retail Appeal – Products Plucked from the Store Shelf

It’s referred to as the “retail effect”: the products you see on the shelves when you go shopping are now available as promotional products. Not only will you find popular brand names at ePromos, you’ll also find lower priced retail lookalikes that may better fit your budget. To garner more brand awareness, look to this latest trend. Retail-related products have a high perceived value and quality — and the quality of your product has never been more important. Even better, you can add to your logo to put your personal, unique touch on it. Take it one step further with retail packaging, which is a practical way to get more eyes on your logo! Aesthetically pleasing packaging will increase the perceived value of the gift you are giving.

2. Refined Look of Copper

One of the biggest trends right now is copper. Try promotional products made entirely out of copper, or with copper accents and lining that adds to the performance of products. Copper used in drinkware adds insulation for extended thermal retention, keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold for longer. Brand names to look for using the insulation qualities of copper are Grizzly®, and Pelican®. For the tasteful look of copper, check out our Copper Moscow Mule Mug, Copper-Insulated Tumbler to enhance the aesthetic of your at-home bar. Your customers will love Copper-Colored Water Bottles, which are a stylish piece to tote around the gym or town on a hot summer day. These trends are likely to remain for their fabulous look, their ability to fit any budget and their functionality.

3. Matte Finish Credibility

Not all that glitters is gold! Look for products that have this aesthetic — sometimes called powder coated. It’s an elegant, soft matte look that everyone is loving! This look is a new trend in promotional products, and an original idea that will help you successfully promote your brand. A powder finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so this finish reduces highlights and you can see more of the branding. Customers with discerning taste will appreciate these items because with a powder polish, you get the appeal of a different texture. Many hot promotional items are getting a makeover with this trendy appearance.

5. Outdoor Inspired Promos

Some of the best giveaways are when you keep your client, customer or employee’s personal interests in mind. For nature lovers and adventurers that often head outdoors, gift promo products that fit well into a rugged environment. Even products that simply remind one of the great outdoors are slated to be extremely popular in 2017, as they were showcased at the Expo. If your customers and employees lean more toward the rugged side of recreation, you can effectively advertise to those enjoying activities and relaxation that are a bit more robust. Fishing excursions, field days, team building expeditions, camping and boat shows, sporting games and more are perfect events to reach those individuals with a passion for the outdoors. Forget your run-of-the-mill standard promo items – outdoor gear are unique corporate gifts that will be sure to impress. Gear up the people you most appreciate with binoculars, coolers, survival products, chairs, picnic blankets and more.

All over our planet, people enjoy beautiful waters and beaches – canoeing, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, surfing, jet skiing, swimming. Fun on the water is always an amazing adventure; however, remember with sun, sand and surf, you need to be safe on the water and in the water!

You can bet if you are dusting off your flip flops and heading to the water, your customers and employees are doing the same! So, why not give your promotional campaign a water safety refresher? As a business, one of the best things you can do for a customer is to show them that you care about them and their families’ well-being. A gift of safety is a very good reminder of those feelings and a gift for water-front activities is just the ticket because they are appropriate gift all year long.

Security for Customers and Employees

The United States Coast Guard has requirements for safety equipment – basic items crucial in emergencies. However, there is other “equipment” that is not necessarily required by law, but may certainly keep the people we love safe or even save a life on the water. Here are water safety promotional products that should be a part of every adventure on or near the water.

1. Waterproof Cellphone Pouch

Recently, a waterproof promotional product was in the news when two young men called 911 after one of their kayaks sank on Lake Michigan. The call was possible because the cellphone was in a Waterproof Cellphone Pouch. Help arrived soon after the call and the young men were rescued. Many items you bring to the waterfront, besides your cellphone, need to stay dry. Giving a useful gift such as a Waterproof Dry Sack will keep towels, clothes, documents and cameras safe from the water. You can start your summer promotion off right with these perfect ideas for attracting customers.

2. Safety Whistle

Another personal safety tool that is simple and extremely reliable is a safety whistle. The U.S. Coast Guard regulations state that if a paddle board is operated outside a surfing, swimming or bathing areas, they are “vessels” and operators must have a life jacket and a whistle. A safety whistle is an effective way for customers to be listening to your promotion while making sure they are heard in case of an emergency or to warn boaters in the vicinity. Whistles fit into any type of budget and could be the perfect choice for your customers. In addition, to stay legal on the water, the U.S. Coast Guard regulations state that if you’re on the water after sunset, you need to have a flashlight, or similar lighting device.

3. First Aid Kit

Safety also includes being able to easily handle small injuries, scrapes and cuts with the help of a first aid kit. 4. Sun Protection

Fun on the water usually means sunshine. Too much sun can result in a painful sunburn or lead to more serious health issues including premature aging, eye damage and skin cancer. More than one million cases of skin cancer are reported in the United States each year. Your customers are free to enjoy time in the sun because you are helping to protect them from overexposure with a variety of carefully chosen giveaway ideas including: SPF30 sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, baseball caps, bucket hats and also UV protection/performance clothing.

3 Must-Read Tips For Corporate Holiday Gifts

tips for corporate holiday gifts

You know the adage: It’s better to give than to receive. For businesses, this couldn’t be truer. More businesses are expected to give corporate holiday gifts this year than in the last six years thanks to a steadily improving economy.

Corporate holiday gifts aren’t just a nice gesture – they’re a smart way to strengthen business relationships and get things started on the right foot in the New Year.

Just look at the people on your gift list – your employees, customers, business partners. These are your company’s VIPs. These are the people who impact your revenue stream. It pays to show them some love during the holidays by giving them carefully selected corporate holiday gifts.

If scary visions of bags of money flying out the window are dancing in your head, don’t worry – you don’t have to spend a lot to show your appreciation. In fact, there’s really no hard-and-fast rule at all on how much you should spend on corporate gifts.

The most important thing, nearly all experienced gift-giving business owners would agree, is to give useful items that people actually want to receive.

The holiday season is in full swing, and your employees and customers likely expect a little something from your business. Here are three tips to keep in mind when giving corporate holiday gifts:

 1. Give an experience.

Sometimes the best gifts don’t come wrapped up with a bow – they’re ones that can be experienced. Show your employees and clients your appreciation by treating them to a special experience. Maybe it’s a dinner out or a visit to the spa. The idea is to give them something thoughtful that they can kick back and enjoy.

Ian Aronovich, president and co-founder of GovernmentAuctions.org, gives his employees movie passes for three free movies plus discounts on snacks.

“Seeing a movie in theaters nowadays is an expensive ordeal, so they make a nice treat,” he says. “It’s a great gift to get for your employees to thank them for their hard work and let them know that you appreciate them.”

Aronovich doesn’t give out generic movie passes, though. He gets his company logo stamped on the actual tickets themselves.

“By stamping the tickets,” he says, “it’s a friendly reminder that we’re looking out for them and their interests.”

It turns out many people actually keep their ticket stubs as mementos. So they get to enjoy the experience and have a lasting reminder of your business.

That’s the downside to gifting an experience – once it’s over, it’s over. There’s nothing tangible remaining. Your employees have watched the movie. Your clients have enjoyed that fancy dinner out. They don’t have a physical product to keep afterwards.

An experience is just that – an experience. But you can elevate it into something more permanent by doing what Aronovich has done.

Add your logo to those theater tickets and turn them into mementos of a great night out. Slip a restaurant gift card into a wine glass imprinted with your company logo. When you do this, your business is part of the immediate experience, and your logo sticks around long after the final credits and dessert wine.

 2. Useful gifts simply get more use.

Everybody loves receiving a gift that fills a need. If they find it helpful, they’ll keep it and use it. And, if your company logo is on the item, they will see your name each time they use it.

That’s Katya Constantine’s gift-giving philosophy. For holiday gifts, her company, DigiShopGirl Media, gives external phone batteries customized with the company logo.

“Our clients love these,” she says. “I always want to offer something that our clients will find useful.”

When you take the time and make the investment to give corporate holiday gifts, you want to make sure the items are well-received.

Cell phone-related gifts are ideal since they are used constantly throughout the day. Ninety-one percent of adults have cell phones, according to Pew Research, which means that external phone batteries – also called powerbanks – make incredibly useful gifts. As a result, Constantine’s clients are more likely to hang on to the gift and use it throughout the year.

Of course, there’s always the chance that your customers and employees already have that really great gift you’re excited to give. Some of Constantine’s clients may have phone batteries already. That’s okay.

Think of your corporate gift like a shiny, new toy. If it’s attractive, functional, and the recipient finds it useful, it has a good shot at replacing the original item. It doesn’t matter if it’s a coffee mug or a phone accessory. People are fascinated with what’s new. It’s just human nature.

3. It’s okay to mix things up.

Many companies think they need to have a one-size-fits-all strategy with their gift-giving, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

If you want to delight your customers and employees, have some fun with your corporate holiday gifts. You don’t have to give the same items every year – and you don’t have to give everybody the same gift, either.

Kassy Perry, president and CEO of Perry Communications Group, gets creative with her holiday gifts by picking out a new theme each year and giving items around that theme. She’s given gifts such as portable grills, car emergency kits, stadium seats, beach towels, and blankets.

Her staff gets in on the action, too. Employees get their photo snapped participating in a holiday activity, and the photos go onto the company holiday card.

Perry has been doing this for 10 years and says: “It’s a blast! Our branded holiday gifts are a big deal to our clients and employees. It’s our major marketing tool each year, and we love doing it as much as our clients love receiving it.”

On deck for this year? Cell phone chargers customized with the company logo and website.

“Depending on the year, we’ll do a larger, more expensive gift for clients, and a smaller gift for our ‘friends and family.’ These are the people who might not be clients, but help contribute to our success,” she says.

You Give, You Get

When you give corporate holiday gifts, you get more out of it than you might think. You spread some holiday cheer, yes, but you also inspire the loyalty of the people who are most important to your business.

The holiday season is a time to show appreciation and to really wow your clients and employees. Give them something special now, and you’re setting the stage for a profitable, successful business relationship in the upcoming year. Here’s where to get the best custom holiday gifts of 2014.

And here are some closing words of wisdom for giving corporate holiday gifts:

Rev Up Your Branding

We love spotting promotional products in use, so we got all paparazzi on this fellow today in New York City.

Check out his logoed backpack and hat—they’re branded with the Smithfield Foods logo and #43 for Smithfield’s sponsorship of NASCAR’s #43 Ford Fusion.

Either this guy loves spiral-sliced ham and the Sprint Cup Series, or he’s a Smithfield staffer who’s proud to show off his company’s brand.

We’re thinking it’s the latter.

That’s the power of promotional products—you don’t have to sponsor a NASCAR driver to get your employees or customers excited about your brand. If you really want to rev up your branding, high-quality, attractive and functional promotional products are the way to do it.

Promo know-how tip: Explore beyond traditional office items for your employees, as Smithfield has done with this sporty Nike backpack and cap. Think about it like this: You want the recipient to be proud to use or wear your logoed gift, so give ’em something good.
